Billing Cycle

Meters are read monthly around the middle of the month.

New Bills are sent out at end of each  month. Bills due by 14th of each month.

If you have any questions - Contact the City Water Department at 406-665-9291. We accept cash, checks, and money orders.  At this time we do not have the equipment to accept credit or debit cards of any sort.

New Accounts

New accounts need to be set up as soon as possible when you move into a new residence. We need you to complete a form that we provide at the City Administration Offices (it can also be downloaded here). A $100.00 deposit and an ID are required in order to sign up for service. The $100.00 deposit will be returned after one year for those who are buying or own their home. For renters, the deposit will be returned IF you should end up purchasing the property or move out of town. It can also be used on your new account as the deposit should you move to a different location within the city limits.  At the end of one year, the refund has to go through City Council for approval before being returned to you. This may take 4-5 weeks.

ID's allowed are Driver's License, and State or Tribal ID Cards.

Information needed for the form are previous address, address moving into, Name, Phone number, as well as the name of the person you are renting from and their contact information.

Fees

On January 4, 2005 Resolution No. 1782 was passed by the City Council increasing rates and raising water fees.

Average bills come to around $30.97 which is the minimum.

$11.00 per 3,000 gallons water

$19.97 for sewer

There is a 1.5% penalty plus $10 flat rate for sending a delinquent notice sent by the City for those late in paying their bills.

The reconnect fee for residents where the water has been shut off is $50.00

Bulk water is $6.00 per 1000 gallons.  Cards for Water Fill Station may be obtained at City Administrative Offices.

Bills may run slightly higher for families with more than 2-3 people in them. This is due to more showers or baths, more laundry being done, and various other things. If bills seem outrageously high it would be a good idea to check for water leaks or contact us at 665-9291. Bills have a tendency to run higher in summer months due to sprinklers and watering of lawns. This is normal. The City is not responsible for plumbing problems. Should you have any contact your plumber right away.

Helpful Hints

*    Check for running toilets - running toilets can raise your water bill substantially in a very short amount of time!  If you think this may be the cause of your high bill, try putting a few drops of food coloring in the upper tank to test it out. If the coloring comes through into the bowl you may have a bad flapper.

*  Be careful of frozen pipes! At this time of year with the temperature dipping below freezing it's always a good idea to winterize your home before it's too late.  Frozen pipes can cause numerous problems that may not be found until it's too late.

*    If your water is not working, and you are sure you paid your bill, it might be a good idea to check with a plumber, or for those of you renting, get ahold of your landlord as soon as possible.

*    The more water you use the higher your bill may be. This includes showers and baths, laundry, and watering your lawn. The smallest leak could cause you to have a high bill.
